A Day in The Country by Callum Alden

I wasn’t wearing my I’m Blogging This t-shirt but I’ll tell you about yesterday’s trip up to Foress and its surrounding countryside. It was chilly, I was running late (due to my Gilbert & Sullivan records arriving in the post – and some early morning Pinafore

Two Zero; that’s me, in years (and i’ll be talking like Christopher Morris for the rest of the week).

Into the heart,
Into the heart of a child.
I can go back – I can stay awhile.

Meta Commenting (2.2)

I almost forgot about my ‘Portfolio’ pages, they’re in a sad state and could be worth upgrading for the archive’s sake. After what happened with my Old School Photos (I ‘lost’ the originals and only have tiny little compressed versions to show for 2002/3) I’ll have to do it right this time, whatever that means. I did find this, its my homepage through the ages – made me laugh. I’m only typing this so I can take a screenshot and add “Meta Comment 2.2″ to the list.

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure-wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself.

Choose your future.

Choose life.

I (we) started the flat hunt today. If anyone knows anything about renting in Edinburgh (that does not inculde bashing the English or phrases like “its so expensive”) get in touch. Back to work. Why I chose to mark such a milestone with such a wonderfully dour quote is open for interpretation- but when I think Edinburgh, I think Ewan McGregor running for his life. #

Happy Birthday Macintosh

This year Apple Computers will celebrate 30 years. I know they’re just another company but I’m a fanboy. They introduced their masterpiece “The Macintosh” 30 years ago today – to a large theater full of people in a rather dramatic fashion (some things don’t change) with this ad, it then played during the Super Bowl and made quite an impression. It wasn’t for me, I joined in (I wasn’t born) a bit later. This is one of the ads that I remeber downloading on our Compaq Presario back in ‘98:

Inspired by the re-appearance of the funny Mac logo I would go on to dig out our old Macintosh LC II before buying my first iMac (in Bondi Blue) some years – and many Windows Machines – later. From there it was a jump over to the iBook (in Graphite), another iMac (DV in Graphite) another iBook (dual USB), [should I mention my Quadra 900 here... cost me ?Ǭ£5] a third iMac (this time in Lime Green – Billy has this working to this very day!) and now I’m on the Powerbook G4. On Thursday Lucy’s giving me a Macintosh LC II… they were going to throw it out, or dismantle it- no, I won’t hear of it. I’m going to boot up OS 7.5 and rock the shit. 80MB Hard Disk’s were standard back in ‘92.
