my friends, or as I like to call them “the jammy bastards” are rocking it large at a Sleater-Kinney gig tonight in Glsagow. i’m sitting in bed with flu and BBC 4.
ah well, bugger the buggers – i just discovered the soul seek client for OS X, and what a great network; P2P does live on. I’ve already grabbed 3 more Kinney albums (all of which are Ramone-ic, in a wonderfully feminine squeelingly anxy sorta way) and some Phoenix.
next week i’m down in Glasgow to have a look around for a job, flat… anything really. i think it’d be ironic to take my last two days of work off – as i’ve been a solid worker for 3 years, whaddya think? yeah quiet lot aren’t you?
i’m also writing a script me and will are going to shoot in GlasVegas next week, I think it’ll end up being based on a Chris Morris monologue, from Blue Jam. i’m too sick to be original. i can’t wait to get back into using DV, i’ve been so far away; 35, 120, Super 8, AVI… i feel like i’m coming home. i want it to be known, i learned everything i know from Ken Korda’s “Making it in the Movies”. (Adam & Joe Clip)
you come around looking 1984
you’re such a bore, 1984
nostalgia, well you’re using it like a whore
it? It’s better than before, ah it’s better than before
you come around sounding 1972
you did nothing new, 1972
where’s the ”Fuck You?”
where’s the black and blue?

That was just a headline, I always understood how miserably self-indulgent / egotastical (yes I said egotAstical, and meant it) Technorati is. If your not a blogger, San Fran-ite or a 2.0′er I can sum up Technorati in one phrase; “what did he say?”. Its like over-hearing all the conversations online about you at once. You can type in a website address, and it’ll give you a list of pages that link to it. I guess its intended for blogs and for the ultra-cool / web savvy’s who need to know who’s commenting on thier posts, when and where.
Not impressed? Either was I – as a user / member of Technorati for a good 2 years only tonight have I noticed any incoming(!) from technorati… in fact tonight is the first time I’ve ever done a Technorati search for Callum Alden, and found worth-while data. I suppose last week’s maintanance did some good; Technorati sees me!
The whole blogging bubble popped for me a long time ago, I hate all the pretense that goes a long with it, even K2 makes me feel like I may be appearing to be one of the in-crowd. I happen to like the design / coding, but there’s a lot of fanboys out there :(
On the train today some posh twat with a painful Gordonstoun/merican accent was joking (sorry, I couldn’t help but listen she sat right next to me) about how terrible it’d be if Edward were to read her diary, maybe it was just because she was American… but she went on to read a passage out loud, until the whole carriage was bored of her. I could have punched her. It made me think of blogging. *i should develop this point… remind me*
Its not a very insightful note, more a bitch really. Here’s an Open-Letter I’m sending to the creators of ringo.com (a poor rip-off of Flickr). Flickr works, always did… Ringo doesn’t, yet I’ve heard excuses and then the ‘I don’t cares’ of family members this evening as I tried in vein to convert them… I don’t like it when I sign up for something I have to opt out of 15 (at least 15) newsletters/spam, I don’t like having to be a member of anything to keep up to date, I don’t like obtrusive ads, I hate slow servers, I hate poor quality compression, I hate lazy standard-raping design. I hate ringo too. My short letter went:
you need RSS feeds, if your advertisers can’t handle that- improve your site design, server speeds etc. etc….
…i would not use this ’service’ if it were not for my family’s eager stupidity. by which i mean i am only using this because people have locked themselves into your little game, without knowing it they’re stuck. do you offer an export system?
perhaps you should just give in, have you seen Flickr? if i were you I’d question whether it was worth getting up in the morning.

I just recieved an automated e-mail telling me I should not respond, but reassuring me someone would not ignore my e-mail, maybe read it and not respond – but not ignore my “Suggestions”. I hate fake 2.0 – I e-mailed Thor at ValleyShwag this morning, I got a personal reply in 2 minutes flat. It was 6AM where he is. damn! If you want my hard earned, don’t spam me and don’t advertise on me… don’t automate response me either- what is this 2000 again. Holy mother of Tim Curry I’ve had a bad day.
Have I ever written a “yeah, you can use MySpace if you want but you’re selling your soul to ‘Tom’ whoever he is” post before? No, don’t think so – but if you were looking for a website related to MySpace, why would you come here. Because Google said so?
It appears metacomment.com has more than a little in common with MySpace, if you believe anything the Google results pump out. (Dude, I’m 5th from the top in a related: search, wtf does this mean).
Just to keep you all calm; I don’t sell your comments, online routine, friends, clicks/pageviews to the nasty viral marketing monkeys the way MySpace do. :D
Here’s a link, and another: link. And I want this t-shirt, thanks.
Update: Will just pointed out its not related to MySpace.com, but rather MySpeace.com – horrah for the key fumblers (I’m one of them).
I’ve updated my photo page again, I know its not ‘all there’ yet. In all honesty Flickr seems to work very well for me, but I know some of my friends prefer the safety and privacy of metacomment.com’s shores. So I’m using this funky PostcardViewer script, its flash- and I hate flash.
I’ve got other issues with it; restricted editing (unless you pay up), no user-downloading, you have to re-write a gallery from scratch if you add one image, its all driven by a really awful iPhoto / Photoshop script (its very manual), the quality isn’t that great and every time you visit the page your forced to download 3mb+ of images, every single image on the page… every time. I’ve only been messing with it for an hour or so, its mighty pretty- that’s no excuse.
Hey did you know my Photoblog is useless until iBlog 2 comes out? That’s beacuse I have screwed my iBlog settings into oblivion and when I think photo uploading these days I think Flickr. Maybe I’ll do it with Wordpress one day (or, as I said, iBlog 2).
So, there we go- I’ve fixed up a Photos Page. Just wanted to leave a note to self: I’m planning to upload last years ‘best of’ in a few areas- “general” “people” “places” “parties” – all the top notch photoshopped stuff that I never Flickr-ed. I also have to upload some real quality old-school tapes as we (Q, Bill and Fuzz) discovered there are a few forgotton moments on 20 or so 1hr DV tapes I re-discovered over the weekend. Watch out for that on:
