This programme on the BBC World Service is worth a listen, today’s ‘The Word’ came from Edinburgh and followed Ian Rankin for a bit around the city streets (always thought that’d make a nice podcast, he could do it himself) during the “International” Book Festival. Very enjoyable. They interviewed the organiser of the festival who gave a startling figure of 2% as the percentage of newly published translated books available (or purchased?) in the UK. Our tastes are apparently “very parochial”.
Anyway here’s a direct link to that programme. Enjoy.
