A Day in The Country

A Day in The Country by Callum Alden

I wasn’t wearing my I’m Blogging This t-shirt but I’ll tell you about yesterday’s trip up to Foress and its surrounding countryside. It was chilly, I was running late (due to my Gilbert & Sullivan records arriving in the post - and some early morning Pinafore

I’d go on to whitle “We Sail The Ocean Blue…” all day long), I just made the train - but left some luggage onboard.

Got to Forres to meet Siobhan for a frolic in the countryside and the clouds cleared for a bit… stopped off at Brodie Castle’s ‘Stables’- a wee cafe, book shop combo, found some John Hegley and some Carrot and Coriander soup, it was superb - and the bread - well worth Siobhan hassling the chef about it - what bread! Mhh. Off to Randolph’s Leap, Randolf never did any leaping, that’s for another day. The photo up top was taken far above the point where the River Findhorn meets the Divie. We did a little walking around, a couple of hillarious “over there” pointing posed shots and it was all very beautiful - even in the pre-Spring Scotland seems to be enduring.

Off to some Bridge - I forget the story - it was a bridge… the sand looked like a Tiger, Roar. I think I’ve feel another bout of labyrinthitis coming on, I couldn’t cross a fallen tree to get another angle; do it for flickr! ach.

its a room with a view
Some driving around to Simon and Garfunkel and later The Joshua Tree (not my choice, I’m having a boy week) and THEN, Brodie Castle itself, where Siobhan works as a Tour Guide / Admin Assistant (title-change pending), she’s quite the Polyglot and gave me a private tour, which began in German - that didn’t last. The castle is closed to the general public right now but her boss let us in and we wandered around in the dark for a bit, stumbling into famous artwork and bits of william pitt’s hair (strange). I couldn’t take any photos inside, its not allowed, but really wanted to.

At one point I was looking admiring myself in huge mirror while Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata was played from the Brodie family’s grand piano. Apparently they lived in the castle until 2 years ago, what a place. Anyway, very sureal hour stumbling about a castle in the darkness, I’d recommend it to anyone who’s in the area, Tourist info Here.

Siobhan and I went back for something to eat, Cumberland sausages, thank you. We talked Mac and got stuck into some photos, iTunes and all that Jazz. Writing about wasn’t very fun, bah- I just wanted to post the photo.

And where the hell is Spring?
