So its been a long week, I’m a bad blogger I know
*slaps self -constructively*, I’ll make it up to my 12 prime
readership. Okay, so not been working as much as I’d like (for the money, work’s
not
that
fun!) but I’ve been filling my time with a little more than Flickr and sleep
this week. I’ve started the construction of a giant fence, I call it the
big fence to keep the hun
out… fence. So that’s been fun, it will
complete my parents’ house (only ridding it of me, and re-painting my colourful
room to do now) as we’ve mod-ed it to
quaint-perfection.Over the last few
days I rediscovered eBay while buying some crazy satellite box for my father’s
past-time-of-the-month… it arrived two days after purchase (from Germany) and
he hasn’t shut up about how “amazing” their efficacy is. Anyway, the dang thing
didn’t work and he’s making a profit selling it local as its kinda rare, or
ultra-illegal, who knows? I then went on to buy myself an iTrip only thing is,
in my eBay absence I grew doltish, it won’t work on my iPod… there were 16
seconds to go, and I just bid - £2 + £9 packing (fuckers!). I won -
iTrip is on its way… I got googling, I’ll post an update when it arrives;
iTrip with iBook? (Read
On)Update: Yup, It
Works.
Next up: the camera, my trusty A60 is getting
some filters and a sun guard thing. I was also browsing for a cheap (under
£300) Medium-Format, after discovering some great stuff here. Suffice to say, I found
very little - apparently my parents had one back in the day, but they sold it,
bah! Then I went on to Polaroid, bulk film and in a late night eBay spurt
suddenly I wanted an original Macintosh, and then a G3 Server, finally I woke up
and everything was clear. We had some
family-friends from Germany visit this weekend, apparently my parents met them
some years ago in a quiet cafeteria off Belmont Street. Anyway, they got talking
- parents invited them to stay, they said ja - and suddenly I’m a German/English
translator. Anyone from my Standard Grade German Class will know this can only
lead to major rifts in anglo-germanic relations - mainly due to my constant
foot-in-mouth stereotyping and humorous German accent… which Quincy already
had a go at last month: “Ja selbs
verst?†ndlich bleiben wir am
Campingplatz!“.My
German has a long way to go, but I love the words and Berlin and Trabants, I’ll
visit soon - I have an open invite to Brandenburg. Hoorah! - I mean -
Wunderbar!Tried Lost in Translation
from another point of view, attempting to watch the film (that I love and
respect as possibly the most original 120mins of my 2003) from a nasty “oh this
is too cool, it sucks” - “it has no plot, its rubbish”. I couldn’t pull it off,
I can stare at frames of that film and find interest, Lance Acord rocks my
world. I’ll write something more substantial about this
later.I installed Linux on my iPod and
briefly experimented recording my guitar pluckings (for my ‘album’) it was fun
but useless. I prefer my iBooks built in mic… the album so far has 4 tracks
and is titled (Music For)
TV. My musically inclined friends have
condemned me for using loops and simplicity, I’m just enjoying making beautiful
sounds - and on Saturday I did some vocal stuff - it’ll be downloadable soon. I
received
Garageband 2 this week and tampered with it a little - on my G3 900 its slightly
faster. What are you using Owen? This
weeks weather saw me stumble into a Checkovian melancholia - that we can 100%
blame on consumerism I’m sure… I like it, melancholia is not depression,
there’s no fear or horror in being bored and gloomy, its just glorified laziness
(but dark and off-putting) - so I’ve been enjoying Bram Stoker’s Dracula and it
is more horrifyingly unworldly than any film could ever do it credit, maybe I’d
like to film it - I would stick to the story, its so tragic. I wandered around
imagining I was Jonathan, but couldn’t see it. I once played Dracula, although
he’s pretty simple all the clitch??s are there… Renfield is slightly more
interesting (only now do I see my own and Josh Buckingham’s interpretation was
so wrong). For my money I’d like a chance to play Arthur, he’s an honest
confused sort of chap, although the Ships Captain would also be a nice cameo,
hmm.Everytime I switch on my TV, I’m
sure I’ve mentioned this before, It turns to ITV, I have to force it into Sky
mode by re-tuning it… everytime. I’ve cut down on my TV viewing anyway, but
did enjoy a fantastic “Have I got News For You” last night, William Hague, dear
lord he’s good… on TV. Why can’t Boris Johnston be leader of the Conservative
Party?I think that’s that finally;
online I’ve discovered some more friends on Flickr - and gave Jo a Pro account
as a gift for endorsing some level of geekdom. Check her out. Also,
on Flickr - I found an interesting view from behind the cameras of
CNN and stuff.
Started reading Nikkita.net it’s a little mind-boggling the following you get
when your pretty and a geek, bah! I’m only bitter because she’s
so
pretty, she also has a money on her page, and inordinate monkey connections -
I’ve just noticed in the last few months the amount of searches people (or a
person) is doing on my site search for the keyword “monkeys”. Is that you? Leave
a comment you monkey obsessed loony, maybe it’s Noble, could
be…Oh, and the banana - yuck - some
plastic yellow wtf - far too bendy reason #32443 not to listen to the European
Parliament.
