So its been a long week, I’m a bad blogger I know
*slaps self -constructively*, I’ll make it up to my 12 prime
readership. Okay, so not been working as much as I’d like (for the money, work’s
not
that
fun!) but I’ve been filling my time with a little more than Flickr and sleep
this week. I’ve started the construction of a giant fence, I call it the
big fence to keep the hun
out… fence. So that’s been fun, it will
complete my parents’ house (only ridding it of me, and re-painting my colourful
room to do now) as we’ve mod-ed it to
quaint-perfection.Over the last few
days I rediscovered eBay while buying some crazy satellite box for my father’s
past-time-of-the-month… it arrived two days after purchase (from Germany) and
he hasn’t shut up about how “amazing” their efficacy is. Anyway, the dang thing
didn’t work and he’s making a profit selling it local as its kinda rare, or
ultra-illegal, who knows? I then went on to buy myself an iTrip only thing is,
in my eBay absence I grew doltish, it won’t work on my iPod… there were 16
seconds to go, and I just bid - £2 + £9 packing (fuckers!). I won -
iTrip is on its way… I got googling, I’ll post an update when it arrives;
iTrip with iBook? (Read
On)Update: Yup, It
Works.

I don’t usually comment on things outside my
sphere, but Apple’s something different - this year will be something different.
Apple’s WWDC is being held in San Francisco (that - I can nearly say - is
Quincy’s part of the world) and its going to be big, well its going to be
exciting… We’ve got the new hardware, the new OS and some software, its all rolled out -
what will Steve Jobs offer us this year? He better play it cool - the Apple
could still turn (bad) iPod’s fallout (Jobs himself calls it the “halo effect”)
is spreading and although they had 75% of the market in digital music…
pre-Shuffle that is, should Apple continue to follow the easy / obvious money
they would soon loose it in price wars. They did it before - so its
Apple
Computer remember, and I’m guessing
that’s it
for the iPod - as we know
it.At WWDC 2005 - in the year of High
Definition Video - I predict this: Apple will update us on Software Sales,
mouths will drop at the uptake of Tiger, but much work is still to be done.
Developers are flocking to Macs, Steve will unveil higher spec Powerbooks and
drop the price of Cinema Displays to entice the corporate crowd… A new HD
world is round the corner Jobs has already talked about his interest in Tivo,
Apple will launch a new direction for Quicktime, or a new iApp - it will
incorporate video in a library (iTunes-esque) fashion for access on your
iPod
video.The
iPod video will come in one size, 80GB. It will be white and the same size as
the largest iPod photo (SJ will also announce that’s it for all mono-chrome
iPods, or draw the line completely - iPod photo is now iPod, iPod video is the
fancy option. Phase out the minis or boost
shuffle.Price of iPod video $100 more
than the top iPod photo, it will sync with the new iApp “iPVR”, it will output
through dock to DVI so you can carry compressed DVDs / TV Shows as you wish.
Getting them on to the Mac is a sore-point, Steve will be open about that, or
the new iApp will be riddled with DRM - and there will be tears from
all.So, WWDC 2005: Powerbooks up,
iPods killed - replaced with iPod video / photo, new iApp for sorting video and
syncing to new device, iTunes to (continue to) sell music videos, Support for
developers (lower prices, higher spec). Possibly an upgrade on Macmini (drop in
price?). iPod video and all that legal business with copying dvds needs to be
tackled by a major software provider. I’d love to see someone with authority say
“its not wrong to copy your dvd”. ITS NOT!

friend, this time its Q - and he’s off to San Francisco. Its not a sad teary

of a seeing off.

Yo! old-school
folks, if your not to busy in Nepal, New York, San Francisco, South Africa,
Guatemala… or at the ‘6th Year’s
camp‘… then you will want to join in
the 3rd year of El Campio!! (that’s right blatant misuse of explanation marks).
Its taking place the first weekend of
June (3rd-5th) at Loch
Morlich, Aviemore and if you didn’t turn up last
year or the year
before then you probably heard what you missed… light rain, buying
coconuts,
sailing,
over preparedness, dog chews, me raising/draping the communist
flag every morning etc.In
all serious-face-ness it’ll be really great to see your happy shiny faces again.
Sadly, Santa-Land closed down - but hey! it’s not all bad news there’s a great
water-sports lodge and Aviemore is a 20p bus ride away, whatsmore its a
mid-blowingly beautiful place (photo, more photos,
my
set) and It’ll be bliss. So, well done in all your exams - please kick
me if I ask you how they went - I’m guessing you all need some R&R.
Please give Louisa, Daniel or me a bell / mail. 10 on the list so
far - we’ll sort out the Train
Times later - if you’ve got a driving license and would like to rent
an APC
people carrier for the week, just and idea…
