“If It’s not the ‘blow’ let Peterson Go”

What the fuck. You bigoted idiots. Because a man
is sophisticated and graceful, unlike the locals - a bit odd an Artist he is
guilty? Michael Peterson seems to me like a really sweet, slightly misunderstood
- wholly, most importantly, Intelligent human being. He didn’t have anything to
do with his wife’s death.Tonight I
watched the final episode of “Death on The Staircase” (BBC Four) a documentary
which followed the court case of Michael Peterson, accused of murdering his
wife… why? Well, no one told the jury why, and we didn’t get an insight into
the prosecution as this documentary was heavily biased on the side of
crazy-haired, Vietnam vet, ex-columnist successful author Mike Peterson, and his
really personable defence team. The other side, a paranoid sister of Mike’s
wife, and a Mental Southern, wide mouth, “well, I don’t really believe that”,
shoot from the hip lawyer who was so unpleasant, clitch??d and mistrusting I
thought her a character over-cooked. I’ve got to confess after watching the
first episode I half believed this was TV… a fiction, the story was obvious,
the victim - Peterson.On Peterson’s
writing; he’s not bad actually. However, I grew angry when - in the penultimate
episode the prosecution set off to the local library to dig through his works,
all the way back to poems written in his teens. Poems, metaphors - artsy
writings… in a court? To imagine the slanted, slack-jawed court-TV lovin’
homophobes consuming some not so thought-through lines - sex is murder - to
paraphrase… it’s the natural response isn’t it? For simple types to view art
with not just disdain, not utter contempt but a real misunderstanding - not
realising the difference between reality and a fictional realisation makes me
sad. It’s the feeling I often get when I see the time the UK television schedule
devoted to life-like TV-Drama or the lowest form of prime-time;
Soaps.Which takes me back to the first
episode I saw, I did think this man was so blatantly innocent - the characters
on the prosecution so jaded and nasty… it was too obvious, it was so
corrupt.I’m going to read some more of
Michael Peterson’s work, I feel a real injustice - maybe I can write to him. I
don’t know.
