Feisty Pop
I don’t listen to much pop. Pop is a bad word in
my circles, isn’t it? Anyway, I’ve been disenchanted since I can remember,
maybe/probably I was a snobby child, but I never got those great songs of the
early 90’s – I won’t list, but me and Billy once had an early morning nostalgia
feast, where we jumped from music channel to music channel greedily chomping up
the hits of ‘93 or the top selling acid-filled rave of ‘97. We weren’t
‘there‘
we just knew the sounds, and (in our hung-over state) it was great. Similarly,
it’s odd for me to hold “The Beach” soundtrack in such high regard, I do – I
listen to it at least once a month – it’s got some really odd late 90’s British
rave, well rave was dying out – not jump around music… blatantly drug-educed
sounds anyway. Maybe it’s because I associate the music with the film and the
book, and it’s believable Garland was thinking of the music from such sources as
Dario G, Leftfield and Faithless, who all produced a great soundtrack to such a
trashy film.Anyhoozer, last night -
browsing late night French television’s finest, I came across a music channel
called
l’alternative
and on it a great parody video, which was a silhouette affair with the band
dancing it up to the max, by a French outfit called Feist. The
track “One Evening” (you can download the video here) is not
my favourite off the album “Let it Die” (no further Stones references) but it’s
a good Pop track. It’s a great Pop album – for the reason that it doesn’t take
itself seriously? kind of – that’s what makes U2’s POP great, but there’s more,
she’s (Mrs. Feist) is a really beauty and reminds me of the Zuton’s sax player
crossed with the depth of her lyrics and the album’s integrity (it doesn’t sell
out) it’s all and all the best album I’ve heard this month. Where was I – so,
Pop – not all bad. Try some Feist.
